Membrane Biogenesis is the process by which cell membrane is formed . Cell membrane is made up of proteins and lipids which are synthesised by Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum and Smooth endoplasmic reticulum respectively.
Endoplasmic Reticulum :
Endoplasmic reticulum is a double membrane bound cell organelle found in Eukaryotic as well as Prokaryotic cells.
It is of two types :
- Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum :
- Have ribosomes embed into its wall hence called Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum.
- Associated with Protein synthesis.
- Found either attached or near the nucleus .
2. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum :
- Don't have ribosomes hence appear to be smooth.
- Associated with Lipid synthesis.
- Found either near the nucleus or loosely left in cytoplasm.
