\large{\boxed{\rm{(b) \: Membrane \: Biogenesis}}}

Membrane Biogenesis is the process by which cell membrane is formed . Cell membrane is made up of proteins and lipids which are synthesised by Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum and Smooth endoplasmic reticulum respectively.

Endoplasmic Reticulum :

Endoplasmic reticulum is a double membrane bound cell organelle found in Eukaryotic as well as Prokaryotic cells.

It is of two types :

  1. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum :
  • Have ribosomes embed into its wall hence called Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum.
  • Associated with Protein synthesis.
  • Found either attached or near the nucleus .

2. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum :

  • Don't have ribosomes hence appear to be smooth.
  • Associated with Lipid synthesis.
  • Found either near the nucleus or loosely left in cytoplasm.
