ASRAMA SYSTEM:

• The Asramas were first mentioned in Aitareya Brahmana.

• The Asrama system belonged to the later Vedic period.

• Asramas were introduced for regulating the life of male members.

• The life of 100 years was divided into 4 Asramas.

• The four Asramas are Brahmacharya, Grihasta, Vanaprastha and Sanyasa.

• Brahmacharya - the life of a man before his marriage.

• Grishasta - life of the householder.

• Vanaprastha - the age between 50 - 75 years.

• Sanyasa - ascetic life till the dealth.

• The Asrama system was mainly followed by the higher caste people i.e Brahmanas and Kshatriyas.

• The fourth stage of Asrama system was observed in end of later Vedic age.
