The French Huguenots migrated to America because of their religious persecution in France.

The Huguenots were Protestants by religion, and French was a Roman Catholic religion country.

In the angle of  Church and the States in France, the Huguenots were heretics and therefore not acceptable by law.

King Louis XIV  of France cautioned that and threatened to kill anyone who didn't believe in the line of what he believed, the Huguenots left the country!

They were the first French people to migrate also.

The Edict of Nantes occurred in 1598, which guaranteed to stand by was revoked by Louis XIV in the year of 1685.

The persecution of the French protestants started a much earlier with their places of worship being burnt down.
