School textbooks glorified French rule and justified its domination in the following manner:

a. The Vietnamese were represented and portrayed as primitive and backward, capable of manual labor and not of intellectual thinking.
b. They were called 'skilled copyists ' which meant that they could not rule themselves and were not creative
c. School children were told that only the French rule could ensure peace in Vietnam.
