- The GAP Phase-1 only included pollution abatement works corresponding to 882 mld (65% at that point in time) due to resource constraints.
- An amount of Rs. 462 crore was sanctioned to eliminate pollution in 25 towns in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar, with a total of 261 projects.
- On 31st March 2000, GAP-1 was closed. As part of this plan, 865 mld of sewage could be treated.
