The government has strict rules for factories that are allowed to flow their wastes into water. The wastes must be treated before they are released into the river. What is this treatment? Why is it done?

This is done because wastes contain harmful toxic chemicals that can affect aquatic animals as well as the people living nearby to that waterbody as this can cause many waterborne diseases. So, it must be treated before being discharged into water bodies.
