  • The first civilization in India started around 3000 BC in Harappa, Mohenjo – Daro, Lethal, Dholavira, etc.  
  • The main characteristics of this Indus-Valley civilization was planned township. But it was mainly found only in areas which are nearer to Harappa.
  • They were many societies like hunter-gathers, farmers and rural artisans who were not affected by the urbanization’s influence.
  • Those unaffected societies started using metals like copper and iron. The use of iron became extensive for making weapons and tools for agriculture.
  • These societies were from different parts of India but are mainly from Gangetic plain. Thus Gangetic plain was the prime location of second urbanization in 600 BC.
