the highest common factor of 32 and 40 is 8 .
the HCF is calculated by multiplying all the prime factors together that are common to both terms .
32 = 2*2*2*2*2
40 = 2*2*2*5
therefore,
HCF = 8

Factors of 32=2×2×2×2×2
Factors of 40=2×2×2×5
three times we have 2 in common
so,HCF=2×2×2
              =8
