The heart has two boxes and four chambers.

  • The heart has two main compartments- the atrium and the ventricle.
  • Each of the compartments has two chambers- the left atrium and right atrium, and the left ventricle and right ventricle.
  • The heart has different chambers to avoid mixing up of the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.
  • At first, the blood enters the right atrium and gradually moves to the right ventricle. The right ventricle pumps and sends the blood to the lungs. Here, the blood gets oxygenated.
  • The oxygenated blood then flows back to the left atrium of the heart with the help of the pulmonary veins.

1. Our heart has two compartments, that is a) atrium and b) ventricle.

2. The atrium has two chambers - left and right. Also, the ventricle has two chambers - left and right. So, in total, our heart has 4 chambers.

3. The chambers of atrium and ventricle of the heart are separated so as to avoid the mixing up of the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.

4. The deoxygenated blood from the body enters into the atrium and the oxygenated blood is pumped out by the ventricles to our body.
