A cockroach's heart has as many as 13 chambers, unlike the four in a human heart. As a result, failure of a single chamber in the former does not become life threatening unlike in the latter.

A cockroach has one heart, but the heart may have as many as 13 chambers {compared to 4 in the human heart..left & right atrium, L & R ventricle}. It’s heart is tube shaped, And, it’s heart can STOP, without the cockroach dying. Of further interest in cockroach cardiology, if a chamber fails - it’s not a death sentence for the insect…..but it may well be for owners of our 4-chambered heart. The heart is essential for pumping oxygenated blood throughout the body & organs for all normal functioning.
