area = 9

let base = x

height = x - 7

area = 0.5 X base X height

        =  0.5 X (x) X (x-7)

        = 0.5 X x^2 - 7x

  9      = 0.5x^2 - 3.5x

Therefore, 0 = 0.5x^2 -3.5x - 9

Now, solve for x and find the answer.

Answer:

let the base be x then height will be x-7

now area =1/2×b×h

but we have area as 9cmsq

base as x and height as x-7

1/2×x×x-7=9

xsq×7=18

xsq=18/7

x=18/7under root

may be this will be the answer
