Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: Sophia said,"I bought a new dress." (Direct)

Sophia said that she bought a new dress. (Indirect)

in the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'you' changes to 'I', 'will' changes to 'would', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day', 'these' changes to 'those' and many other words will have to be made.

The Hermit said,"You've already been answered." (Direct)

The Hermit said that he had already been answered. (Indirect)

Hope it helps :)
