Explain the effects of the Great Depression in Germany (8 Marks)

The Great Depression had a terrible effect on Germany.

1. As a result of the Wall Street Crash, there was a worldwide depression.

2. Banks who had made major investments in shares suffered huge losses, particularly German banks, as people feared they wouldn’t be able to pay out the money in bank accounts. Some banks therefore ran out of cash when people panicked and rushed to get their money back.

3. German industrial output fell and consequently unemployment rose. This further meant that there was an even higher loss of trust in the Weimar Republic and its government.
