The inequality that existed in the french society in the old regime become the cause for the french revolution. the reasons are as follows
 
the clergy and the nobles occupied 90% of land and even they didn't have to pay taxes too.

only the third estate people had to pay taxes to government as well as to the church
 there was a subsistence crisis around the citizens of france as the population of people rose up and there was lack of food demand.
