Shankaran Nair was an Indian member in the Viceroy legislative council and he resigned in protest of the Rowlatt Act.

The Rowlatt Act gave extreme powers to the British government for the

detention of political leaders and to prevent Indian leaders from

organising public meetings.

This led to nationwide protest and the famous Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

took place on April 13, 1919.
