The cost of painting both its inner or outer side at the rate of 20 per square meter is Rs. 1454.

Explanation:

The height of the cylinder is given as = 8 m

Step 1:

The inner circumference of the hollow cylinder pipe = 4.5 m

Let the inner radius of the base of the hollow cylinder be “r” m.

2πr = 4.5

⇒ r = [4.5*7] / [2*22]

r = 0.715 m

Area of the inner side of the hollow cylinder to be painted is given by,

= 2πrh

= 2 * 22/7 * 0.715 * 8

= 35.95 m²…. (i)

Step 2:

The outer circumference of the hollow cylinder pipe = 4.6 m

Let the outer radius of the base of the hollow cylinder be “R” m.

2πR = 4.6

⇒ R = [4.6*7] / [2*22]

R = 0.731 m

Area of the outer side of the hollow cylinder to be painted is given by,

= 2πRh

= 2 * 22/7 * 0.731 * 8

= 36.75 m² ….. (ii)

Step 3:

Now, from (i) & (ii), we get

The total area of the hollow cylinder to be painted

= 35.95 + 36.75

= 72.7 m²

The cost of painting per meter square is given as = Rs. 20

Thus,

The cost of painting both the inner and outer side of the hollow cylinder is,

= 72.7 m² * Rs. 20

= Rs. 1454
