the iron fillings arrange in a pattern around the magnet. why do they do so? Please...

because there are magnetic field lines around a magnet which attracts the iron fillings..These magnetic field lines are in a particular pattern of almost semicircle ...so the iron fillings are arranged in a definite pattern..
