When the narrator met the two boys for the first time he saw them selling strawberries. he thought this is the only thing they do to earn their living. but later he discovered that these two boys do many small works to earn but they don't spend it on themselves. they do it to pay hospital's fees where their sister is admitted because she was suffering from tuberculosis of spine. the narrator was impressed as they work day and night to provide for medical expenses for lucia [their sister] they are ready to sacrifice their childhood for the treatment of their sister
