Indirect/Reported Speech refers to speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: She said,"I am reading a book." (Direct)

She said that she was reading a book. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'this' changes to 'that', 'will' changes to 'would', yesterday' changes to 'the previous day' and many other words will have to be made.

The judge said,"Have you anything to say?" (Direct)

The judge asked if I had anything to say. (Indirect)

Hope it helps :)
