the larger angle is 140 and smaller one is 40 as
x+y =180
according to question
x= 3y+20
putting this value we get
3y+20+y=180
4y=180-20
4y= 160
y=40
x=3×40+20
x=120+20 x=140
hence solved

Answer :-

The angles are 140° and 40°.

Solution :-

Let the smaller angle be x°

Given

Larger angle = exceeds thrice the smaller by 20°

= 3(x) + 20

=(3x + 20)°

(3x + 20) + x = 180°

(Because given angles are supplementary)

3x + 20 + x = 180

4x + 20 = 180

4x = 180 - 20

4x = 160

x = 160/4

x = 40

Smaller angle = x = 40°

Larger angle = (3x + 20)

= 3(40) + 20

= 120 + 20

= 140°

Therefore the angles are 140° and 40°.
