The latitudinal and longitudinal expansion of India is almost equal but their p actual terrestrial distances are different. Why?

This is because of the nature of the latitudes and the longitudes. The distance between two is fixed between any two points and does not vary according to the area or shape. On the other hand, the longitudes are not parallel lines and the distance between the lines vary from equator to the poles

India's latitudinal and longitudinal extent measured in degrees are almost the same, but its north-south extent measured in km is greater than its east-west extent. This is due to the fact the distance between latitudes remains the same but the distance between longitudes is greatest at the Equator and nil at the poles where all longitudes join
