The leaves in shrubs and palms are arranged in such a way that they do not over lap each other. What could be the reason for this?

It is an adaptation to HIGH LIGHT CONDITIONS.
where there is enough light available and to block /filter some light ,the overlapping arrangement takes place in leaves .
