case 1

let the breadth of rectangle be x

then length will be equal to x+18

then area=x(x+18)=x²+18x

case 2

length is increased by 6=x+6

breadth =x+18+6=x+24

and area is increased by 168=x²+18x+168

(x+6)(x+24)=x²+18x+168

x²+24x+6x+144=x²+18x+168

x²+30x+144=x²+18x+168

x²-x²+30x-18x+144-168=0

12x-24=0

12x=24

x=2

x+18=20
