The length and breath of a rectangular piece of land are in the ratio of 5:3.If the total cost of fencing it at rs. 24 per metre is 9600rs.find the length and breath.

Rate of fencing = 24 per metre

Now, perimeter = 9600 / 24 = 400 m

According to the question,

Perimeter = 2(l+b)

400=2(5x+3x)

\frac{400}{2}=8x

200=8x

x=25

Length of the rectangle -

5x = 5\times 25=125 m

Breadth of the rectangle -

3x = 3\times 25=75 m

Ratio of the length and breadth = 5x: 3x


Total cost of fencing = Rs9600
At the rate of = Rs24


Perimeter = 2 ( L + B )

2 ( 5x+3x) = 16x is perimeter 
perimeter = 9600/24
Perimeter = 400

16x = 400
x= 25 


length = 125m
breadth= 75m
