The length of a prayer hall is 3 meters more than its width . if area of the hall is 36 m find the length and breadth

Here is the answer.

Let width be x m

so length will be x+3 m

As area = length×width = x(x+3) = 36m^2

or, x^2+3x-36 = 0

or, x= {-3 +-√(3^2 - 4×(-36))} / 2

or, x = -3 +- 12.369 /2

or, x = 4.685 m

So, width = 4.685 m

length = 3 + 4.685 = 7.685 m
