Let the width of the rectangle be X.

So lenght= X+4inches.

area of rectangle = length * width

so 96 = X(X+4)

96= X square +4X

Xsquare +4X -96 =0

so by quadratic equation,

X= 8 inches

X +4 = 12 inches

therefore width = 8inches and length = 12 inches.
