The length of a rectangle is 5 cm more than 3 times its width. The area of the rectangle is 1428 square cm. Find the length and width of the rectangle.

Answer:

Let 'L' be the length and 'W' be the width

L = 3W + 5

Area = 1428

length × width = 1428

(3W+5)W = 1428

3W^2 + 5W = 1428

using the formula -b±√b^2 - 4ac/2

we get w = 21 or -22.66

Width cannot be -ve. So W = 21

L = 3×21+5 = 68
