The length of a rectangle is increased by 50%.By what % shuold the width be decreased to maintain the same area?

L1 , W1 - Length * width of rectangle

L2 , W2 - Modified length & width of rectangle

L1 * W1 = L2 * W2

L2 = L1 * 1.5 ( 50 % increase )

L1 * W1 = L1 * 1.5 * W2

W2 = W1/1.5

W2 = W1 *2/3

Width decrased by W1-W2 = W1 - W12/3 = 1/3 W1

So 33.33% reduction
