The length of a rectangle is increased by 60% by what percentage would be the width have to be decreased to maintain the same area

As area of rectangle = l x b

We get Area is " DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL " to length and breadth

IF Length is DECREASED by 60% 
the width MUST BE INCREASED by 60% to maintain the same area..

length is directly proportional to area hence if length is increased by 60%then the width also has to be increased by 60% in order to maintain the same area.
