Let breadth of rectangle be x m

Then given that length = 2x-8 m

Also perimeter = 56 m (given)

We know that perimeter of a rectangle = 2(length + breadth)

On putting the values in the formula,

56= 2(x + 2x - 8)

 \frac{56}{2}  = 3x - 8

28 = 3x - 8

36= 3x

⇒ x = 12

Breadth = 12 m

Hence length 2x - 8 = 2*12 - 8

= 24 - 8

Length = 16m

Let the breadth = x

Length = 2x-8

Perimeter = 2×(l+b)

= 2×(x+2x-8)

= 2×(3x-8)

According to problem

2×(3x-8)=56

3x-8= \cancel\dfrac{56}{2}

3x-8=28

3x=28+8

3x=36

x=\cancel\dfrac{36}{3}

\thereforeBreadth= x=12m

\thereforeLength= 2x-8=2×12-8=24-8=16m
