Given :-

  • The length of a rectangular plot exceeds its breath by 5 metre
  • The perimeter of the plot is 142 m

 \\

To Find :-

  • The length and the breadth of the plot

 \\

Solution :-

⟶ Let the Breadth be x m

⟶ Then the Length will be x + 5 m

According to the Question :

⟾ Perimeter of Plot = 2 ( L + B )

⟾ 142 = 2 ( x + 5 + x )

⟾ 142 / 2 = x + 5 + x

⟾ 71 = 2x + 5

⟾ 71 - 5 = 2x

⟾ 66 = 2x

⟾ 66 / 2 = x

⟾ 33 = x

________________

Verification :

➞ Perimeter of Plot = 2 ( L + B )

➞ Perimeter of Plot = 2 ( x + 5 + x )

➞ Perimeter of Plot = 2 ( 33 + 5 + 33 )

➞ Perimeter of Plot = 2 ( 38 + 33 )

➞ Perimeter of Plot = 2 × 71

142 = 142

Hence Verified

Therefore :

  • Length of Plot = x + 5 = 33 + 5 = 38m
  • Breadth of Plot = x = 33m

Additional Info :

Formulas Related to Rectangle :

  • Perimeter of Rectangle = 2( l + b)
  • Area = Length × Breadth
  • Length = Area / Breadth
  • Breadth = Area / Length
  • Diagonal = √(l)² + (b)²
