To find : length and width of floor .

Given : The length of a room is three times its width.

            Area of the floor is 75\ m^{2}

Solution :

  • Let width of room be x .
  • Then according to question length of floor will be 3x .
  • To find area we use following formula -
  • Area of floor $= l \times b$
  • Substituting the values we get,

           75 \ m^{2} = 3x \times x

            3x^{2}  = 75 \ m^{2} \\x^{2} = (\frac{75}{3}) m^{2}   \\x^{2}  = 25 \ m^{2}

      Taking square root on both sides,

             x = 5 \ m

  • Therefore , width of floor = x = 5\ m .
  • length of floor = 3x = 3 \times 5 = 15\ m

Hence, width and length of floor are 5\ m and 15\ m respectively .
