Given:

The length of the rectangle is increased by 10% the width of the rectangle is increased by 5%.

To find:

percentage increase in the perimeter of the rectangle.

Solution:

1) Let the length of the rectangle is 100 units. the the new length would be 110 units.

2) Let the breadth of the rectangle is also 100 units. The new breadth would be 105 units.

3) The original perimeter of the rectangle is 2(L+B)

  • P = 2(100+100)
  • P = 400 units.

4) The new perimeter of the rectangle is

  • P1 = 2(110+105)
  • P1 = 430 units.

5)  percentage increase in the perimeter of the rectangle

  • (30/400)×100
  • 30/4
  • 7.5%

Percentage increase in the perimeter of the rectangle is 7.5%.
