As we know that the box is sealed all around with tape. So if it was given that if the tape was sealed only on the borders then we had to find its perimeter which will be:-
2(l+b)
=2(40+10)
=100 cm
hence we would get 100 cm as tape length.
Its also given that the tape is all around so we can also find the area..which will be..
L×B
=40×10
=400cm
hence for covering the whole lid we require 400cm of tape length..

hope it helps..if doubt please ask to your teacher once again for confirmation..

Given that :-

  • The lid of a rectangular box of side is 40 cm by 10 cm is sealed all around with tape.

To find :-

  • The length of tape required.

Solution :-

The length of the rectangular box= 40 cm.

The breadth of the rectangular box= 10 cm.

Length of the tape required=

Perimeter of rectangular lid of the box=

2 × (length + breadth)

=2 × (40 + 10) cm

=2 × 50 cm=100 cm

•°• 100 cm = 1m.

So , the length of tape required is 100 cm or 1m.
