Answer:

The north pole of magnet attract towards south pole of earth and the south pole of the magnet will attract towards the north of the earth.

This is due to EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD.

NOTE:

They aren't pointing exactly the north-south geographical directions..

Instead the point the magnetic poles of earth..

          Charges under motion produces some kinnda field///Magnetic FIeld

              As u know...Earth is filled with molten states of metals(Fe..) contains free ions (charged).

This on the course of motion of Earth produces the field...

This can be experienced everywhere inside this magnetic influence and thus a compass ..
