The xylem tracheary elements consist of cells known as tracheids and vessel members, both of which are typically narrow, hollow, and elongated. Tracheids are less specialized than the vessel members and are the only type of water-conducting cells in most gymnosperms and seedless vascularplants.

xylem tissue is one of the main two types of vuscular tissue .xylem carries water and mineral where as phloem the other type of vuscular tissue mostly carry sugar /sap. the two main cells in xylem tissue are tracheids and vessels element / member . both vessel element are dead at functional maturity .
