Keki N. Daruwalla, through his poem "Tigers" is trying to bring out the idea, that though tigers are animals that can be fierce and scary, yet they wish to be treated like the other animals. The poet is trying to portray that the tiger is not always looking to attack and is also sometimes in a gentle mood, where it prefers to be relax and if it is fed well, he would even like to be friends with mankind.

The main idea of the poem focusses on a totally different side of the tiger which the people can barely see because the tiger is always associated with strength and violent hunting. As man is influenced by his mood, the tiger is also a creation of God and is influenced by its moods which depend on his meals. Good and evil exist simultaneously and a tiger is no exception. There also exists the good side of a tiger wherein it is harmless and lazy, so lazy that man can scratch its back.
