The four major iron-ore belts are :
Orissa-Jharkhand belt - haematite iron ore is found in the mines of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of Orissa and Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur belt - the haematite ores from the mines in Chattisgarh and Maharashtra are exported to Japan and South Korea.Bellary-Chitradurga-Chikamagalur-Tumkur belt - the ore from Kudremukha mines in Chikamagalur is transported as slurry to a port near Mangalore through a pipeline.Maharashtra - Goa belt - though they are not of very superior quality, the ore from this belt is exported through the Marmagao port.
