Given : The marked price of a television is ₹10000. The selling price after discount and tax is ₹9860.

To Find :  the possible percentages (whole numbers) of tax and discount.

Solution:

The marked price of a television is ₹10000

Discount =  D %

=> Discount = (D/100)10000 = 100D  Rs

Selling Price Before Discount = 10000 - 100D  Rs

Tax = T %

=> Tax = (T/100)(10000 - 100D)  =  100T - DT

Price after Tax = 10000 - 100D  + 100T - DT

10000 - 100D  + 100T - DT   =  9860

=> 100D - 100T + DT =  140

Possible Solutions

D = 15      T   = 16

D = 32     T =   45

D = 42     T =  70

Discount % after Discount Tax %  Afte Tax

10000 15        8500     16 9860

10000 32        6800    45         9860

10000 42      5800    70         9860
