Given that,

▪ Mass of one molecule of a substance is

2.989 × 10²² g

We know that, Molecular mass the mass of one mole of molecules/atoms of any substance which is indirectly equal to the mass of 6.022 × 10²³ molecules/atoms of that particular substance.

So,

⇒ 1 molecule ➞ 2.989 × 10⁻²² g

Molecular mass can be calculated as,

⇒ Moleculer mass = 2.989 × 10⁻²² × 6.022 × 10²³

⇒ Moleculer mass = 17.999 × 10

⇒ Moleculer mass = 179.99 g

Or approximately,

⇒ Moleculer mass ≈ 180 g

Some Information :-

  • Molecular mass or molar mass is the mass of one mole (6.022 × 10²³) of moelcules or atoms.
  • Number of moles = Mass / Molar mass
  • Molecules of non Ideal gases are generally found in combination of the same atoms of that substance. For e.x., H , O₂

Explanation:

Given :

  • mass of one molecule of a substance is 2.989×10⁻²²g

To Find :

  • What is it's molecular mass

Solution :

Now we know that : -

→ Molecular mass = Mass of 1 mole ...(1)

→ 1 mole = 6.023 × 10²³ molecules ...(2)

Now, from eq. 1 and eq.2, we get:-

Molecular mass = Mass of 6.023 × 10²³

molecules

Mass of 1 molecule = 2.989 × 10⁻²²g

Thus, mass of 6.023×10²³ molecules :-

= 2.989 × 10⁻²² × 6.023 × 10²³

= 18 × 10²³ ⁻ ²²

= 18 × 10

= 180g

Thus, molecular mass of the substance 180u.
