Let the age of the excluded child be x
.Old mean= 10
New mean=9
Mean= sum of observation/ total observations
10= sum of observations/ 5
sum of observation= 10*5=50
new mean :
Mean= sum of observation/ total observations
9=50-x/4
9*4 =50-x
36=50-x
x=50-36
x=14
.Old mean= 10
New mean=9
Mean= sum of observation/ total observations
10= sum of observations/ 5
sum of observation= 10*5=50
new mean :
Mean= sum of observation/ total observations
9=50-x/4
9*4 =50-x
36=50-x
x=50-36
x=14

Value of deleted observation = n(mean) - (n-1)(new mean).
You get the answer as 5(10)-4(9) = 14 years.
You get the answer as 5(10)-4(9) = 14 years.
