the mean marks scored by 100 students was found to be 40. later on it was observed that a score of 53 was misread as 83. find the current mean.

this is for 3 marks

The total mark scored by all students (before) = 40 x 100 = 4000
If 53 was misread as 83 the new total = 4000 - 30 = 3970

New mean mark = 3970/100 = 39.7
