The mean of 10 numbers is 8. If 2 is added to every number, what will be the new mean?

SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • The mean of 10 numbers is 8.

  • 2 is added to every number

TO DETERMINE

The new mean

EVALUATION

Here it is given that The mean of 10 numbers is 8.

∴ Sum of 10 numbers

= ( 10 × 8 )

= 80

Now 2 is added to every number

So the every number will increased by 2

So the sum will increased by 10 × 2 = 20

∴ New sum = 80 + 20 = 100

∴ The required new mean

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{100}{10} }

 = 10
