The mean of 10 numbers is20. If 5 is substracted from every number what will be the new mean?

Let X be sum of all values.
Since mean = sum of all values / no. of values
So, according to the given data
20 = X / 10 (1)
Now for subtracting 5 from each term we need to subtract it 10 times(Since total terms = 10)

New mean = [ X - (5*10) ] / 10
=( X / 10 ) - [ (5*10) / 10 ]
=( X / 10 ) - 5
By substituting the value of ( X / 10 ) from equation (1)
New mean = 20 - 5
Hence, New mean = 15
