Given :

  • The mean of 31 results is 60 if the mean of the first 16 results is 58 and that of the last 16 results is 62.

To Find :

  • We have to find the value of the 16ᵗʰ result.

Solution :

  • Mean of 31 results = 60
  • Mean of the first 16 results = 58
  • Mean of the last 16 results = 62
  • The value of the 16ᵗʰ result = ?

Finding the sum of 31 results :

→ The sum of 31 results = 31 × 60

→ The sum of 31 results = 1,860

  • Hence,the sum of 31 results is 1,860.

★ Finding the sum of the first 16 results :

→ The sum of the first 16 results = 16 × 58

The sum of the first 16 results = 928

  • Hence, the sum of the first 16 results is 928.

★ Finding the sum of the last 16 results :

→ The sum of the last 16 results = 16 × 62

The sum of the last 16 results = 992

  • Hence,the sum of the last 16 results is 992 .

Now, let's find the value of the 16ᵗʰ results :

→ The value of the 16ᵗʰ result = [ The sum of the first 16 results - The sum of the last 16 results ] + The sum of 31 results

→ The value of the 16ᵗʰ result = [928 + 992] - 1,860

→ The value of the 16ᵗʰ result = 1,920 - 1,860

The value of the 16ᵗʰ result = 60

  • Hence,the value of the 16ᵗʰ result is 60.
