Mean of 8 Observation (Assuming that they are ungrouped and you haven't been given a frequency table)= Sum of all observations/No. of observations
40=Sum of all observations/8
40*8=Sum of all obs. (I have taken the number that was being divided to other side to be multiplied)
Sum of all obs.=320
If 5 is added to each obs. then 5*No. of obs is the amount added=5*8=40
New sum of obs.=320+40= 360
New mean= 360/8= 90/2= 45
