The mean of five item was found to be 40.if at the time of calculation two item were wrongly taken as 32 and 12 instead of 23 and 11. then find the correct mean.

 \frac{sum \: of \: nos.}{5}  = 40 \\ sum \: of \: nos. = 200

but instead of 23 and 11, 32 and 12 is taken so,

sum \: of \: nos = 200 - 32 - 12 + 23 + 11 \\  = 200 - 44 + 34 \\  = 200 - 10 = 190

Now mean =

 \frac{190}{5}  = 38
