Mean of 5 nos.= 28
Therefore, sum of the 5 nos. = 28 X 5 = 140
The the no. exclude by 'x'.
New sum of 4 nos.= 140 - x
New mean = 28- 2 = 26
Therefore, (140 - x ) / 4 = 26
=> 140 - x = 104
=> x = 36

Hi ,
we know that ,
mean = ( sum of the observations )/(number of observations )
according to the problem given,
1 )mean of 5 numbers = 28
sum of 5 numbers = 5 × 28 = 140 ---( 1 )
if one number excluded the new mean = 28 - 2
= 26
number of observations = 4
sum of the 4 observations = 4 × 26
= 104---( 2 )
The excluded number = ( 1 ) - ( 2 )
= 140 - 104
= 36
I hope this helps you.
