given mean =40
no. of observations =5
sum of observations =40*5=200
if one number is excluded
mean =28
no. of observations = 4
sum of observations =28*4=112

excluded number =200 -112
= 88
here is your answer hope it helps you if it helps plz mark me as brainleist.........

Given:

The mean of five numbers is 40. If one number is excluded, their mean becomes 28.

To Find:

The excluded number is (68 / 88)?

Solution:

Mean = (sum of observations)/(Total number of observations)

Mean = (sum of observations)/5

40 = (sum of observations)/5

sum of observations = 40*5

sum of observations = 200

It is given that if 1 number is excluded, their mean becomes 28.

exclude 1 number = 5 - 1 = 4. and mean is 28.

sum of observations = Mean * Total numbers

sum of observations = 28 * 4 = 112

Finding excluded number:

The excluded number. = Original sum of the observations-New sum of observations.

The excluded number = 200 - 112

The excluded number = 88

Hence, The Excluded Number is 88.
