40
Hi ,
It is given that mean of a and b = 10
( a + b )/2 = 10
a + b = 20 ---( 1 )
a is four times of b
a = 4b ---( 2 )
Substitute ( 2 ) in equation ( 1 ) , we
get
4b + b = 20
5b = 20
b = 20/5
b = 4
Put b = 4 in equation ( 2 ) , we get
a = 4 × 4 = 16
Now ,
a + b = 16 + 4 = 20
I hope this helps you.
